Discussion this Thursday: "Jesus, enemies, politics, rage, fear"
May 18, 7pm, 1199 Waterwalk Dr., Holland
Our discussion session this Thursday, May 18, will be an opportunity to continue our discussion on Jesus, enemies, politics, rage, fear, and more. We welcome any and all questions and comments on these important topics. Does the idea of “loving your enemies” reflect something true about God? If so, what do we make of Revelation, and most of the Bible? How does “loving your enemies” square with biblical witness? How do we relate to or think about Jesus if we no longer hold orthodox views on Jesus and Christianity? How do we relate to conservative Christianity as it continues to support the MAGA movement? What is our responsibility in the face of this dangerous and cruel movement?
Here are a few podcasts to consider on these topics: What a Slow Civil War Looks Like, Bryan Stevenson with Krista Tippett, Revolutionary Love with Valarie Kaur
Our June 1st gathering, “Untangling Trauma from Self/Soul,” will feature trauma therapist Bethany DeBlaay. Bethany works with adults who can recall traumatic life events and prefer somatic-oriented interventions. Her ideal clients are seeking support for birth trauma, whether experienced as mother, partner, or baby. She also works frequently with church-related trauma, especially within the LGBTQ+ community.
Previously, Bethany worked with refugee and asylee populations who qualified for services as “survivors of torture,” individuals returning to the community after incarceration, and families involved in child welfare services.
We hope you will join us and invite others to these events.
