Nietzsche and the Death of God
The video of our February gathering, “The Deaths of God(s)”, on Nietzsche and his pronouncement of the death of God is available here. This was not an easy gathering to lead, especially for Marlin, as you’ll see. It’s uncomfortable for us to admit that some of our conceptions of God are simply no longer believable, or worthy of belief. But reality doesn’t seem to care about our discomfort. Either we face what we know and what we value (along with what we no longer can believe and no longer value) with courage and honesty, or we forge ahead in utter delusion. Both paths are difficult. Nietzsche’s pronouncement of the death of God in the parable of the madman (discussed in February’s gathering) conveys Nietzsche’s warning about the gravity of losing these traditional conceptions of God. This will not be easy. But Marlin and I (and many, many others; more each day) believe that this is the task at hand.
Next gathering: “Evolving Faith” with Fred Harrell, March 9, 7pm, Brew Merchant
