More resources on the Israel-Hamas War
I know that this has been overwhelming to witness. I also know that some of you are looking for recommendations to stay engaged. So here are some podcasts (including one from Chris and me), articles, videos, and more.
Podcasts:
Ezra Klein has a conversation with the Israeli Jewish author, Yossi Klein Halevi, author of Letters to my Palestinian Neighbor. If you want to understand how Jewish Israelis are feeling and reacting in the wake of Oct 7, this episode will help.
Chris and I have a discussion about the danger of vengeance, and the helplessness that we feel as tens of thousands of Palestinians are killed in Gaza in response to 1200 Israelis deaths at the hands of Hamas.
I’ve consistently found the analysis in Pod Save the World to be fair and helpful. The last two episodes are worth your time.
Articles:
Up-to-date information on destruction and death in Gaza
A beautiful tribute from Sahar Vardi to Palestinian human rights activist, Khalil Abu Yahia, who was killed in Gaza.
I’ve been having a discussion with Josh Marshall, founder of the website Talking Points Memo, about Israel and International Law. I hope to share our back and forth, but I want to get his permission before I do so. In the meantime, he pointed me to a helpful article in Puck (new to me) that discusses the complicated nature of International Law.
Twitter/X:
The rhetoric of Israeli leaders has been extremely irresponsible and dangerous.
The bombing in Gaza appears to be intentionally aimed, at least partly, on destroying civilian infrastructure.
The bravery that medical personnel in Gaza are showing is inspiring and tragic.
