The Holocaust and the Genocide of Palestinians in Gaza
A consensus has emerged among scholars of genocide and among human rights organizations. Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians of Gaza. In the clip below (you can watch a longer interview here or read Bartov’s essay in the NY Times here) Omer Bartov, professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Brown University, summarizes the case against Israel.
Dr. Tad Stoermer, PhD in History, specializing in the American Revolution, has emerged as a new voice of clarity for me. I see his work on TikTok, mainly. He focuses on resistance history, and is finishing up a book on resistance movements in American history.
His work on resistance includes analysis of the resistance movements during World War 2, where, as he says below, the lines between good and evil were clear. But now, the memory of the Holocaust is being used to justify the genocide of another people group, the Palestinian people. Here is the first part of Stoermer’s analysis.
Stoermer goes on to explain how the charge of antisemitism is being weaponized against historians, philosophers, politicians, anyone who dares to invoke the Holocaust when talking about Israel’s crimes in Gaza. Stoermer concludes: “We are not just watching a genocide unfold [in Gaza]; we’re watching the moral compass of modern memory collapse.” Here’s part two of his analysis.
Yesterday, Israel approved a new offensive in Gaza, a plan dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots II.” Israeli officials plan to call up 130,000 reservists for this new offensive in northern Gaza, focusing on Gaza City, the last major area that Israel has not totally destroyed.
Israel has killed 62,000 Palestinians in Gaza so far. At least 266 Palestinians have been starved to death by Israel, 120 of them children. Words fail, so I leave you with a protest anthem from Jesse Welles.
Welles is from Arkansas, home of former governor Mike Huckabee, a Christian Zionist who is currently serving as the U.S. ambassador to Israel. You may remember his daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders from her time as White House Press Secretary for President Trump in his first term. Sanders currently serves as the governor of Arkansas. She is a Christian Zionist like her father, so much so in fact that she recently invested $50 million of Arkansas state retirement funds in Israeli bonds. This is in addition to $55 million of Israeli bonds already held by the Arkansas Treasury. Lastly, Welles mentions Arkansas senator (Welles says “Congressman” in the song), Tom Cotton, another Christian Zionist who does his part by parroting the lies of AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee), who blame everything on Hamas.
