We need your help
Still Processing needs your financial support. It’s that simple. We cannot do this without you. And even if we could, we wouldn’t want to.
Our financial need has increased due to my departure from the Reformed Church. Starting on January 1, Still Processing will be the place where I try to make a living, and a difference.
We need to raise another $20k for next year’s programming, which of course includes my salary. For the foreseeable future, we will need to raise at least $150k/year. This will be a challenge.
I am thrilled to give this a go. The freedom to research, wonder, write, interview, discuss, innovate, perform, it’s all I’ve ever wanted. You all have given me a chance to take this risk. Thank you.
I am also afraid, and often bewildered. There is so much that I do not understand. As I open myself to the world, to reality, I see a lot of pain. Sometimes I despair. But Still Processing has room even for despair.
Still Processing began over three years ago with a vision to create a space for those of us who have left religion or who are in the process of leaving religion, and for those who just don’t know what they believe anymore. We wanted an unapologetically liberal/progressive/leftist space where people could wonder, laugh, rant, cry, and learn about whatever this is that we are living in, and living through.
Since then we’ve evolved into a place of curiosity, kindness, resistance, moral courage, moral clarity, joy, honesty, and wisdom. We believe that we can live more beautiful and meaningful lives, while also creating the conditions for others to do the same.
It’s time for me and Still Processing, and maybe some of you, to step fully into the public eye, into the public discourse. This means more gatherings, more Substack posts, more podcasting, and more social media.
Here’s what Still Processing has to offer in 2026.
We will be hosting at least 21 gatherings in 2026. We will host twelve gatherings focused on a topic, and featuring a guest with expertise on that topic: climate collapse, critical race theory, psychedelics, leaving religion, transgender individuals in sports, AI, etc.
Eight of our gatherings in 2026 will be more experimental. I’m tentatively calling these events, “Hear me out.” Our first guest for the new format will be journalist Sarah Leach. “Hear me out” is meant to be a gathering where I and a guest talk through the latest news, cultural trends, personal research interests, etc. We are going to have a lot of fun with this.
Lastly, I will be writing, podcasting, and recording videos a lot more in 2026. My hope is to bring you more of what I am pondering and researching. Much of it will be informative and analytical. But I want to bring fun and laughter as well.
These are serious times. They require honest and open reflection and experimentation. Still Processing will be doing just that. We hope you’ll join us with your financial contributions, and with your love and presence.
